I relied on KT0A\u2019s helpful tips on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sota.org.uk\/Summit\/W7U\/GR-031\">SOTA summit page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Key Points:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Short, fun hike<br \/>\n\u2022 No href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moab,_Utah\">Moab<\/a>, take Highway 191 north<br \/>\n\u2022 Drive past the main entrance to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/arch\/index.htm\">Arches National Park<\/a><br \/>\n\u2022 Continue northwest about 6.5 miles to Highway 313<br \/>\n\u2022 Turn left, southwest<br \/>\n\u2022 Follow the signs to <a href=\"https:\/\/stateparks.utah.gov\/parks\/dead-horse\/\">Dead Horse Point State Park<\/a><br \/>\n\u2022 Drive about 14.8 miles to a marked fork, where Highway 313 heads left, east, toward Dead Horse Point State<br \/>\n\u2022 The Knoll stands just east of the fork<br \/>\n\u2022 Park off the highway about 200 yards east of the junction, on the north side of Road 313.<\/p>\n<p>The Hike:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Hike northeast toward The Knoll<br \/>\n\u2022 A jeep road east of the parking spot leads to the west side of the butte.<br \/>\n\u2022 Walk up the jeep road about 150 yards.<br \/>\n\u2022 Follow a social trail south of The Knoll to the east side of the rock outcrop.<br \/>\n\u2022 There\u2019s no need to do any rock-climbing or scrambling.<br \/>\n\u2022 A faint path leads south of the top. I guyed my 20-foot pole with three cords tied to rocks. At 2300Z, it was warm sitting in the late-afternoon sun, even though the temperature was near freezing \u2013 fortunately there was almost no wind.
