\u00bd mile to the summit<\/p>\n<p>Additional Details:<\/p>\n<p>The hike to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summitpost.org\/south-peak\/826221\">South Peak <\/a>isn\u2019t very steep or difficult, but it requires some time at high altitude. The entire route is across open tundra, and there\u2019s no shelter available; this ascent is best done on a good dry day.<\/p>\n<p>The peak has great views of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.14ers.com\/php14ers\/tripreport.php?trip=9115\"> Buffalo Peaks<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visittwinlakes.com\/\">Twin Lakes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Elbert\">Mount Elbert<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sawatch_Range\">Sawatch Range<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arkansas_River\">Arkansas River Valley<\/a>. It\u2019s the highest point in the area, so it\u2019s a fine HF summit. No trees grow so high, so bring a pole and be prepared to guy it. The HF noise level is very low, and there seems to be no interference from the communications facility nearby.
