Evans? The Conclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I finally received a letter from the <em>Clark Creek Ranger District<\/em> regarding my encounter on Mt. Evans (read the <a title=\"Part 1 of the story\" href=\"http:\/\/www.schnizer.com\/SOTAblog\/others\/antenna-restrictions-mt-evans\/\">first part of the story<\/a> if you are not familiar with it).\u00a0 It took me almost six weeks and several e-mails to get an official statement from the Ranger District.\u00a0 I guess an underfunded federal agency has more pressing issues to deal with.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that it was an over-eager FS employee who kicked me off the mountain.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is that,\u00a0according to the letter, the Federal Code of Regulation [36 CFR 261.10(a)], which applies to communication equipment, is written with some built-in ambiguity and might be interpreted differently in other Forest Service units.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2170\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.schnizer.com\/SOTAblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/MtEvans-Letter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2170\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2170 \" title=\"MtEvans-Letter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.schnizer.com\/SOTAblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/MtEvans-Letter-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2170\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Official Response<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Well, I will deal with another interpretation if and when I run into another issue. The <em>Clear Creek Ranger District<\/em> interpretation however makes sense to me &#8211; chapter closed!<br \/>\nI really appreciate the clarification.<\/p>\n<p>Read the entire letter by clicking on the thumbnail to the right.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s my last post from Mt Evans but there are two more pictures\u00a0 I wanted to share.\u00a0 The first one was shot at the <em>Summit Lake<\/em> trail-head early in the morning. The trail starts on the right side of the picture, goes up the ridge to Mt. Spalding and over to Mt. Evans<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The second picture is from a close encounter of the third kind&#8230; well, not quite but is was remarkable. This unflinching <a title=\"Wikipedia info\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mountain_goat\" target=\"_blank\">mountain goat<\/a> approached me. The picture is shot with a 52mm lens, <strong>not<\/strong> a tele-photo lens. He came up to me at arms lengh&#8230; too close for my taste. I normally try to keep a save distance between wild animals and myself, but this guy was not shy at all. Since I had never heard about occurrences of rabies in mountain goats and since I received some <em>goat combat<\/em> lessons earlier in the year (courtesy of Rooster) on my trip to Mt.
